Google’s new Search Generative Experience (SGE) is emphasizing zero-click searches, presenting significant changes and challenges for marketers.
What Google is Changing
Google is testing a Search Generative Experience (SGE), which uses generative AI to answer queries on the search results page directly. This increases "zero-click" searches where users don't need to visit websites for answers. SGE will also reduce the screen real estate for organic and paid search results.
How this Impacts Marketers
SEO and Content: SEO strategies will need to adapt to SGE's new ranking algorithms. Content must be optimized to rank well in SGE and may involve focusing on insights that generative AI can cite.
Web Traffic: Expect a 15-25% decline in web traffic as more searches become zero-click.
Paid Search: Fewer ad slots will appear in SGE, necessitating a look at alternative paid channels.
