What You Need to Know About Answer Engines
Everyone knows what a search engine is: it’s Google, or if you're concerned about privacy, DuckDuckGo. The place you're presented with a sea of blue links that promise to answer your question as soon as you click.
Answer engines work differently. They aim to give you the information you need directly on the search results page without requiring any clicks. Perplexity is one of the most popular answer engines today. ChatGPT also considers itself an answer engine.
Answer engines are gaining popularity, but they have some risks. Since they are powered by large language models (LLMs), they can sometimes produce incorrect or made-up answers.
Despite their current limitations, answer engines are starting to challenge traditional search engines like Google as they improve and become more reliable.
Google is responding to the rise of answer engines by launching its own AI Search feature, powered by its Gemini model. This feature provides interactive summaries and links in response to user queries. The goal is to offer detailed, reliable information, similar to what answer engines provide but backed by Google’s data sources.
It’s still too early to say whether answer engines will replace traditional search engines, but their popularity will likely increase as people become more comfortable with AI. This shift in user behavior means marketers who create structured content targeted at LLMs will appear on answer engines and improve engagement with their audience.

The Copilot Features You Should Be Using Today
Section’s Chase Ballard took Microsoft’s latest AI features for a spin. Here’s what he found:
👍 Create, integrated into Word, Outlook, and other Office 365 apps, helps you create content from a text prompt.
👍 Editing a PowerPoint with Copilot’s just-add-branding approach is a game changer. The ability to go from nothing to something with fully fleshed-out speaker notes makes polishing presentations less mundane.
👍 Catch-up, ask, and understand features are handy for getting up to speed on lengthy email threads, complex documents, and data-heavy spreadsheets.
👎 Chatting with Copilot online does not stand out compared to Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini.
